For nearly a century, dedicated members have donated historic artifacts and memorabilia to the museum and furnished the house with period furniture. The decorative arts collection features arts and crafts, whose object is the design and manufacture of goods that are both beautiful and functional like fashion and a lady's trousseau. Various forms of the textile arts, glassware and metalware are included. Military memorabilia features uniforms, soldiers' equipment and documents related to the period from the end of the American Revolution 1793 through the ratification of the Treaty of Ghent in 1815.
Flag Pole is the Mast of the USS Constitution
The flagpole in front of the N.S.U.S.D.1812's Headquarters is a topgallant mast (marked on picture below) from the USS Constitution. It was given to the National Society in 1933, following the reconditioning of the famed, "Old Ironsides". Before it could be installed on the front lawn, twenty feet of its original length had to be cut off to be in compliance with District of Columbia height regulations.
On the base of the flagpole is a plaque that reads:
Mast from U.S.S. Constitution Presented to National Society United states Daughters 1812 by Mrs. John Francis Weinmann, April 1935
